Working Model

Definition: 

An assembly of components designed to provide defined functionality in order to prove or develop a concept.

At an early stage of the development of a product it is usual to produce a working model to prove the idea, and to enable functionality and performance to be evaluated.

The working model is unlikely to resemble the finished product, and may not even be housed in an enclosure, depending upon the requirements of the project.
