IP ISSUES
The value of Intellectual Property is often underestimated, and the laws relating to it are not generally well understood. We aim to de-mystify the process and help you to achieve your objectives simply and safely.
What is IP (Intellectual Property)?
Intellectual Property refers to 'creations of the mind' - inventions, literary and artistic works, and symbols, names, images, and designs used in commerce. During development, these will be embodied in circuit schematics, parts lists, etc.
Who owns the IP?
It is not commonly realised that in law, the owner of IP is the creator, and not the person who pays the bill. For this reason it is vital that you agree in advance that upon completion of the project, all rights in the IP will be transferred to you. This is standard policy with Project Electronics, but not all design companies do this, so beware!
What can I do to protect my IP?
The chief legal means of protection are copyright, patent, trademark, and registered design.
