Troubleshooting

How do I use TRAINAIR® with Windows 7 and above?

Windows 7 is available in 32-bit and 64-bit versions. 32-bit versions are supplied with an inbuilt emulator (virtual machine application) which will allow you to run the TRAINAIR® program. The 64-bit versions do not have this feature, so you would need to download and install a suitable emulator program. We recommend the Oracle VirtualBox, which is available free. This program includes a full version of Windows XP and is simple to use. For step-by-step instructions on how to use TRAINAIR® with XP Mode, please refer to this document.

Note: Windows XP Mode Virtual PC is compatible ONLY with a 32-bit or 64-bit PC running Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise or Ultimate. The Home Edition is not supported. If you have the Home Edition, please click here.

I want to use the Mains Adaptor, but I can't fit the plug at the back of the PC. What do I do?

Some PCs have the connectors very close together, which prevents you from plugging the Mains Adaptor into the side of the TRAINAIR® connector. Try using another port and/or the adaptor which comes with the kit. If that doesn't work, use a serial extender cable.

I get the message 'The TRAINAIR® handset doesn't appear to be connected to your PC' when I enter the Training Room or Workout. What's wrong?

Your PC is unable to communicate with your TRAINAIR® handset. If you are using a serial (COM) port, do the following:

  1. Check that the small connector on the cable is fully inserted into the socket of the TRAINAIR® handset, and that the larger connector is inserted fully into the PC, ensuring that the jack screws are secured. If this doesn't solve your problem, proceed to 2.
  2. Exit from the program, unplug the cable from the handset, remove and disconnect the battery from the handset. Wait a few seconds, then reconnect the battery and the handset cable. Try the program again. If this doesn't solve your problem, proceed to 3. However, if this does correct the problem, we reccommend that you upgrade to the latest version (How do I tell what version I have?).
  3. Try using the Mains Adaptor. If this works then the handset battery is probably flat and will need to be replaced. If not, proceed to 4.
  4. Try using a different COM port on your PC. If you still have a problem, contact the helpdesk for further advice.

If you are using a USB adaptor, make sure that the COM port setting is either COM1 or COM2. To check this use the Device Manager (Start/Settings/Control Panel/System). In Windows XP, select the 'Hardware' tab and cick on 'Device Manager'.We strongly advise you to use a USB adaptor and driver tested and approved by TRAINAIR®.
