A bespoke electronics circuit design typically incorporates a microcontroller and the circuitry designed to provide customised interfaces to peripherals. The embedded firmware is designed to exactly match the specified functionality in the most efficient way.
A great advantage is that changes to the functionality can be made simply by altering the firmware, thus avoiding costly hardware modifications.
